Challenge #122 Grid (un)-Locked

I am remembering back to Certification, close to the last day and a tangle was introduced based on a grid and I thought to my self "OMG, not another grid tangle"!

Well, I will tell you this exercise has totally changed my way of thinking.  As soon as it was mentioned on the Zentangle blog I started a grid on scratch paper and had a go.  The grid keeps getting larger as I think of things.  I wish I had started it in my journal.

When I finally sat down to do a tile I still had the grid on my mind.  An uninteresting string, but I do like the way it came out.

And another one.  So much fun!

  1. LOL, I can so totally relate to your "not another grid" thought. That is where I was when I first started. I HATED the grids. Mainly because I couldn't dray a straight line if my life (or those of my children) depended on it. Then came certification. Then came understanding Maria's way of drawing grids. Then, finally even came straight (almost) lines if that's what I wanted. It mostly had to do with slowing down, drawing one line at a time instead of visualising a finished "grid". Having said all that, Your zentangle, includindg the grid, the lines and the tangles (grids) you chose is absolutely lovely. Isn't zentangle® wonderful??

  2. I really think your tile is very nice! Well balanced and all of the patterns go together well. Looks like it was relaxing to do! One of these days, I hope to embrace the grid, but not there yet....

Be creative and catch some Happy!

  5. The "squareness" of the grid disappears with the lovely patterning and shading!
Your idea of collecting grid seeds is very inspiring, Debra! I still do all my exercises on loose pages, a whole stack in the meantime.... Think now it's time for me to buy a journal too!

  9. Debra, I love your story about the grid. I sometimes joke about having an all-grid class, but I don't know if people would think I was crazy! I think your pieces are fantastic. I love the flowing gems in the second one. Beautiful linework in the first. The little Inapods look great tucked in there. :-)
