This weeks challenge from Laura Harms comes from guest CZT Diana Hirsch. This weekend the students at Penn State University will take part in a dance Marathon called  THON  to raise money for pediatric cancer. It is an annual event that benefits The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

The Four Diamonds Fund was started by Charles and Irma Millard after their son, Christopher, lost his 3 year battle with cancer in 1972.  Symbolic of the traits Christopher felt were needed to defeat cancer, he wrote a story in which the knight Sir Millard overcomes obstacles to achieve the four diamonds of Courage, Wisdom, Honesty and Strength.

Having recently lost my own son to cancer I know the courage and strength that is needed, for the patient and for the family/friends supporting the patient, to enable them to go on another day. This is a organization that has paid medical expenses for more than 2000 families and also funds innovative research which helps those families find some relief and hope for others that help may be found.

Our tangle this week is the four diamonds symbol.

I have incorporated the tangle pattern chainging created by Zentangle® founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas that reminds me of the necklace my son wore for most of his years and I continue to wear on my wrist in honor of him.

  1. Chainging is a perfect border and outline of the diamonds. The inside of the diamond looks literal and is wonderful!

  4. Gorgeous! Love the way you use the chainging for the borders. It looks so perfect and calm. It shows that we can use very few or many tangles to create the work. Wonderful!
