Plant a tree, create a forest! We Zentanglers can do that instantly with pen and paper. My Tall and Small trees for the forest. The first one was done as a practice on a piece of scrap paper (when will I learn.)

Challenge #231 Undulating Tangles!

I had the opportunity and pleasure to take a class from Sharla Hicks at the last Tangle U. Although her main subject was using a pastel blue pencil she also reiterated the use of "enhancers" which I am not doing frequently enough. So I pulled out her class notes and looked them over.

I am a lover of any tangle that is circles or circle related. I didn't think I had a C or an S shape tangle that I loved. It did not take me long to think of Verve and realized I could make it curvy if i really tried.

As I am trying to catch up on many projects I started playing in my Tangle-A-Day-Calender. It has become my sketch book in a sense, as it is a great place to try things out and no one sees it unless you offer it up. I will offer it up today.

Things got curvier as I went along and I also tried out a couple of enhancers. I really liked the last one so decided to try a tile with weighted line enhancer. I might have gone overboard with the shading, but it was screaming out for it. I hate conflicts, so shading it got.

Challenge #128 White on Black

Hmmm.......not my favorite, but I am willing to spend time with it. I have many new supplies I would like to try out so now is as good a time as any.

First tile I find to busy although I realize some of you may like it.

Signo Angelic pen (I thought I had ordered White but got Angleic, not sure if it is the same) White gelly roll for dots (I think it does a better job at dots) blue and peach chalk pastel pencil in Zinger and a light gray pastel pencil for shading in Printemps and Punzel

               After scanning it I added black lines over the Angelic signo pen to add a little depth.

This second tile I like better for it's simplicity and and it's foggy ocean feel.

Verve in White Signo, Pearls are white gelly roll and shading is in dk gray chalk pastel pencil.

Challenge #195: "Turning Old into New"

Thank you Sandy Hunter for a creative challenge to look at our tangles in a new way. We are to take a grid based tangle and make it free flowing or take a fee flowing tangle and put it into a grid. I tried one tile with Skein used as a border and Verve put into a grid. Here are the results:

I have not taken up challenges or focus tangles at Square One lately because I have been hooked on my inkblot pictures.

Challenge #177 "Truffle"

The challenge come to us this week from Carolin Broady the youngest CZT so far! She has come up with a tangle called Truffle which you can see HERE. I commend her on designing a tangle, it is much more difficult then it may seem, at least for some of us (me). I struggled with this one all week to come up with some thing I liked and then just decided to draw. Well, I have not had the drawing bug for a while, I guess I am on the wane right now in the drawing sector so what I ended up with is a weird sort of an underwater, way underwater, creature. A challenge is a challenge, so here it is.

I used a yellow micron on the tan tile this week as an experiment.Not sure I love it but, it was worth the try. Truffle, Verve, Black Pearlz and Zinger

Weekly Challenge #176: "B.Y.O.B"

I really like to use stains on tiles. Maria has been doing it for some time using tea or wine for shading. Amy Broady CZT challenges us this week to "Bring Your Own Beverage" to stain a tile or tangle with the beverage of choice, or simply sit in a beverage house and create a tile. I used many different staining mediums but settled on this tile that was stained with coffee and turmeric.

Tomorrow would have been my son's 28th birthday and of course, he has been heavy on my mind. His ashes were set free off the coast of Maine "so he could travel the world." I always feel that he is around us in Maine especially but, we are also surrounded by water in Boston too. I didn't see this while tangling but upon reflection I see the three of us, myself, my husband and my son, Dylan in the Mookas, surrounded by the swirling ocean (Verve) that is Austin and then by the shining world. Somethings just come out on their own without a conscious thought.

Weekly Challenge #136: "Colour Colour Everywhere"

I made my move from Maine to Boston this past week and I feel a little discombobulated. My arty things are still in boxes and I need a bit of time to get re-established in my condo digs. So, already feeling a bit out of it, along comes a color challenge! Yay!  All of I could think of after a week of contemplation was "color blocks." Easy, fun.

A New Frontier

Yes, I have gone to see the new Star Trek movie, Into Darkness, with my husband.  I am not a trekkie, but sometimes we do things for others to make them happy.  I enjoyed the movie even if my mind was wondering to things I enjoy more.

My "new frontier" is watercolor.  Watercolor with Tombow markers to be more exact.  I took a class with Marie Browning and have been fascinated ever since.  I tried out the markers on this Lotus flower that will be a gift for a friend and I was thrilled with how it came out.  I was a bit leary to tangle over it, but with help from some amazing Zentangle teachers/friends I found my way to finish this flower.  I did not want to distract from the colors to much, but in my world everything should be tangled.  I do like the outcome.

Challenge #119 "Ebony and Ivory"

Black and white.  Basics, right?  This challenge was such and eyeopener for me.  I had never thought to make a tile in which black space and white space were evenly distributed.  This challenge came from the Zentangle blog and the lovely Diva.  Thank you for combining forces. Along the way I have seen many new possibilities which I will need to play with in the coming days or weeks.

I completed a tile that I had started a while back, but had lost focus in.  It was sitting on my desk in front of me when this challenge came along.  I knew where I had to take it. Here is my Ebony and Ivory.  So much fun.
